The rejection note

A four-person studio publishes what it cut from each season and why. It is the most useful document any of these labels produces.

The rejection note

Most seasonal communication is a list of additions. One studio publishes the opposite: everything considered and removed, with a line on each explaining the decision.

Reading it backwards

The note is more informative than the collection. A pocket cut because nobody carries that object any more tells you what the studio believes about its wearer. A strap removed because it failed at the third wash tells you what its standard is.

Why nobody else does it

Publishing what you rejected means admitting you considered it. For a studio of four people that is a small cost. For a house with a marketing department it is unthinkable.
